What is a dialog, and how does it differ from a dialog fragment?

A dialog is a small pop-up window that appears over the current Activity to request user decision or additional input. It blocks interaction with the Activity until it is closed.

• Dialog (direct use of the Dialog class or its subclasses, such as AlertDialog) is a lower-level way to create a dialog. It requires manual management of its lifecycle (showing and hiding). It is less flexible when changing configuration (e.g., screen rotation), as it may require manually saving and restoring state.
• DialogFragment is a special Fragment designed for embedding dialog creation logic. It is managed by FragmentManager, which provides better integration with the Activity/Fragment lifecycle and automatic saving/restoring of state during configuration changes. It is the recommended way to create dialogs in modern Android applications.
