What is the SBI feedback model?

The SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact) model is a structure for giving constructive feedback that helps make it specific and understandable. It consists of three parts:

• Situation: describes the specific context or moment when the event occurred.
• Behavior: describes the specific observed behavior of the person without judgments or interpretations.
• Impact: explains how this behavior affected the team, project, or outcome.

Example:

Yesterday at the meeting (situation), you interrupted a colleague while they were explaining their idea (behavior). This caused confusion and slowed down the discussion (impact).

This approach helps provide feedback objectively and without accusations, which increases its effectiveness and reduces defensive reactions.
