What is ETC and how to calculate it?

ETC (Estimate to Complete) is an assessment of the remaining work or time needed to complete a project or task. In project management, ETC helps to understand how many resources and how much time will still be required.

How to calculate ETC:

• If there is an estimate of the total work (EAC — Estimate at Completion) and the time already spent (AC — Actual Cost), then:

  ETC = EAC - AC
  

• If EAC is unknown, you can use expert judgment methods or calculate ETC based on current performance and remaining tasks.

Example: if a project was planned for 100 hours, 60 hours have already been spent, and current forecasts indicate that an additional 50 hours will be needed, then ETC = 50 hours.
