Input Output is hiring a Software Engineer focused on the Midnight Indexer, a Rust service that streams blockchain data to wallets and end-user applications through a high-performance GraphQL API. The role covers indexer development, data pipelines, APIs, testing, and operational quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Indexer components in Rust, including the chain indexer, wallet indexer, SPO indexer, and GraphQL API.
- Build and maintain a data pipeline that fetches blocks and transactions from the Midnight node via subxt, including finalised-block tracking, backfilling, and continuous indexing.
- Design efficient schemas and queries for PostgreSQL and SQLite while maintaining latency and throughput.
- Evolve the GraphQL API with queries, mutations, and real-time WebSocket subscriptions, including secure handling of shielded data and wallet sessions.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Own observability, containerised deployment with Docker, and incident response.
- Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions and collaborate with node, ledger, wallet, and security teams.

Nice to have
- Substrate or Polkadot ecosystem experience, especially subxt, pallets, and runtime development.
- Familiarity with blockchain core concepts, including consensus, cryptography, and transaction and state models.
- Applied cryptography or zero-knowledge experience or interest.
- WASM and Cardano or partner-chain context.
