How to safely deliver data from a form to a server? How does HTTPS work?

HTTPS protocol is used for secure data transmission from the form to the server, providing encryption and protection against interception.

How HTTPS works:

1. The client (browser) establishes a connection with the server using the TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol.
2. A TLS handshake occurs, during which:
   • The client verifies the server's certificate (whether it is signed by a trusted certification authority).
   • The parties agree on encryption parameters.
   • A shared secret key for the session is generated.
3. After establishing a secure channel, all data, including form content, is encrypted with this key and transmitted over the network.

Thus, even if an attacker intercepts the traffic, they will not be able to read the content without the key.

For additional security, it is recommended to:

• Use modern versions of TLS (1.2 and above).
• Verify the correctness of certificates.
• Implement protections against CSRF and XSS on the application side.
