What is a lambda function?

A lambda function is an anonymous (nameless) function that is usually defined at the point of use and can be passed as an argument or returned from another function. In different programming languages, lambda functions allow writing concise and functional code.

For example, in Python, a lambda function looks like this:

add = lambda x, y: x + y
print(add(2, 3))  # Outputs 5

In the context of QA Automation, lambda functions are often used for filtering, sorting, or passing logic to methods, for example, when working with collections of test data or configuring expectations in tests.

Their key advantages:

• Conciseness of code
• Ability to be used as function arguments
• Improved readability when used correctly

However, for complex logic, it is better to use regular named functions for ease of debugging and maintenance.
