What is a host?

In the context of computer networks and the client-server interaction, a host is a device (computer, server, smartphone, etc.) that is connected to the network and participates in data exchange. It has its own IP address, which allows it to be identified and to communicate with other hosts. Hosts can be servers providing some service (website, database), or client devices requesting this service.
