What is Assumptions Mapping?

Assumptions Mapping is a methodology used during the discovery phase to identify and systematize assumptions that the team makes about the product, users, market, or technologies. The goal is to explicitly document these assumptions to then test them through experiments, interviews, or analytics.

Assumptions Mapping is often presented in the form of a table or map, where for each assumption, it indicates:

• What exactly is assumed
• How critical this assumption is for the success of the product
• How to verify its validity

This helps focus efforts on the most risky hypotheses and reduce uncertainty in the development process.
