What is key-information extraction (KIE)?

Key-Information Extraction (KIE) is the process of automatically extracting key information from unstructured or semi-structured documents such as invoices, contracts, forms, etc.

KIE typically involves:

• Analyzing the document structure to identify zones with important information.
• Extracting specific fields (e.g., date, amount, name) using machine learning models or rules.

It is used in automating document processing, reducing manual labor and increasing accuracy.

Example: from a scanned invoice, a KIE system can automatically extract the invoice number, date, amount, and payer details.
