Where in the virtual machine memory are static variables usually located?

In Java, static variables are usually stored in a memory area called Metaspace starting from Java 8 (before Java 7, PermGen was used).

Metaspace is a part of the JVM's memory where class metadata is stored, including static variables, constants, and method information.

Therefore, static variables reside in the metaspace and exist as a single instance for the entire class, regardless of the number of objects created.

This allows access to static variables without creating an instance of the class.
