What will happen if the number of pods exceeds the number of partitions?

If the number of pods in a Kafka consumer group exceeds the number of partitions in the topic, some pods will be left without assigned partitions and, consequently, will not receive messages. In Kafka, each pod is assigned one or more partitions, but the number of partitions cannot be less than the number of active pods, otherwise some pods will be idle.
