What is cooperative multitasking?

In cooperative multitasking, the scheduler is controlled by the tasks themselves. Each task must explicitly release the processor to allow other tasks to run. If a task does not release the processor, other tasks cannot execute, which can lead to system hang. Unlike preemptive multitasking, where the operating system controls the allocation of processor time and can interrupt tasks.
