What is DevOps, how do you understand it, why is it needed, and how can its effectiveness for business be measured?

DevOps is a culture and set of practices aimed at uniting development (Dev) and operations (Ops) to accelerate and improve the quality of software releases.

Why is DevOps needed:

• Accelerating the delivery of new features and fixes
• Increasing stability and reliability of systems
• Improving communication between development and operations teams
• Automating build, testing, and deployment processes

How I understand DevOps: it is not only tools but also a change in mindset, where teams work together, use CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and feedback for continuous improvement.

Measuring DevOps effectiveness for business:

• Lead Time from commit to production
• Release frequency
• Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR)
• Number and severity of incidents
• Level of process automation

These metrics help understand how quickly and effectively the team delivers value to users and how resilient the infrastructure is.
