Promise is hiring a Founding Security Engineer in Oakland for a $180K–$240K role focused on detection engineering, cloud and application security, vulnerability management, automation, and secure AI adoption.
Responsibilities
- Build and run detection by writing, tuning, and responding to Python-based rules for anomalous activity.
- Partner with the Infrastructure team to secure GCP, cloud networking, and Kubernetes.
- Strengthen application security and make pragmatic upgrades to applications and dependencies.
- Improve security through code and automation, including guardrails, checks, and remediation workflows.
- Own vulnerability management from identification and prioritization through remediation.
- Build security culture through guidance, training, and partnership with engineers.
- Develop technical and policy frameworks for safe AI adoption across the company.
- Collaborate with engineering on secure product design and technical implementation.
Conditions
Office-based position in Oakland.
Salary: $180K–$240K.
